Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Community of Practice (CoP) Meeting Overview (September 24, 2024)

  • Introductions (5:00-5:10 PM): Dr. Matthew White and Dr. Adam Feinberg welcomed attendees and introduced the concept of a Community of Practice (CoP) in education, highlighting the shared goals and collaborative learning focus of the group.
  • What and Why of a Community of Practice (5:10-5:20 PM): The CoP aims to foster collaborative learning among educational professionals focused on the sustainable implementation of an Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (I-MTSS). The group is built on an appreciative inquiry framework to exchange information and share best practices.
  • Critical Features of MTSS (5:20-5:30 PM): MTSS is described as a prevention-based framework for integrating academic and behavioral interventions. The framework aims to enhance outcomes by promoting a unified approach to both academic skills and social-emotional learning, mental health, and student wellbeing.
  • What Do We Hope to Achieve (5:30-5:55 PM): The goal is to create an Australian conceptualization of I-MTSS, foster networking among educational leaders, and share knowledge about the sustainable implementation of MTSS within school contexts.
  • Future Topics & Feedback (5:55-6:00 PM): The meeting concluded with a request for feedback and suggestions for future CoP topics.
